[Canada Goose] This is the name of the wild goose that flied far above our heads Fall and Spring, traveling north or south in great flocks shaped like an immense V. At the head is a leader who knows the way well. As it is harder work to lead than to follow, this bird is replaed by another pilot and permitted to rest, ready to come back fresh to relieve the goose there. It is not often they can be seen on the ground, as they are known better from the noisy honking that fills the sky as the flock passes. They are beautiful brids, gray bodies, with black necks and heads decorated with a white chin strap. They are said to grow quite tame, even become pets; but they are cautious, and you will not touch them without starting a fight. They are known to live as long as fifty years, mating early and remaining true to each other for life. Always a favourite, poems have been written about them, and to them. Topics include New Years activities, day to day life, Banff events, visits from friends, weather, hockey games [on the radio and live], curling, skiing, cameras and photography, events and people in Concord, world news, radio programs, the Winter Carnival, cleaning and household chores, Catharine working with the Red Cross and instructing a weekly art class, skiing on Sulphur between the Upper Hot Springs and the river, Pete making posters for various organizations, community events and programs, painting, gardening and yard word, errand trips to Calgary, judging an art show at the Auditorium sposored by the Horner Co. in June, Catharine's brother Russ and his family coming to visit in late June-late July [included stays at Skoki, Bow Lake, Lake O'Hara, and Temple], the Governor General touring Banff in July, Banff Indian Days, driving up to Sunshine Lodge and beyond to the edge of Porcupine Valley as part of a survey crew with Fern Brewster, the Calgary Stampede, day trips around Banff National Park for sketching and picnics, trips to Bow Lake and Temple Mountain [usually for a week at a time], matters pertaining to the store, moving a shed from behind Annie White's house closer to the river [used to store cars and later a stagecoach], Catharine going to Concord for a month [mid-November to mid-December], making the annual Christmas card, and various Christmas/holiday activities and parties [including Pete and Catharine's first Christmas tree since before the war].

Topics include leaving Honolulu for Tokyo via the Canadian Pacific Steamer "Empress of Japan" in late March, life aboard ship, comments and descriptions of the ship and other passengers, weather, books Pete and Catharine are reading, arriving in Tokyo, extensive details of most everything Catharine comes into contact with [this was her first visit to Japan and drew a lot from her grandfather's experiences - it was not Pete's first visit], meeting their guide Mr Miyaoka, going to art shows and museums, local cuisine, architecture, music and entertainment, sightseeing, visiting temples and gardens, shopping, sketching, taking Japanese painting lessons, photography and cameras, going for walks [both during the day and at night], going to the movies [also includes comparisons to Hollywood movies], visiting Nikko for a few days in mid-April before returning to Tokyo [while in Nikko Pete and Catharine watched a local festival, although she does not say what the festival was for], dinner parties, leaving Tokyo for Kyoto in late April, descriptions of the trip and countryside from the train, comments on Japanese naval and military activities, their time spent in Kozu on the way to Kyoto, the trains they travelled in and other travellers, farms, the various towns and villages passed [mostly comments on the train stations], Pete's day trip to Kobe to meet with a friend he'd met in Banff, planning the next leg of their trip, touring around the Kyoto area, visiting local landmarks [including gardens, temples/shrines, and factories/specialty shops], making day trips to nearby landmarks and towns [most notably Nara to see the tame deer and to the Imperial Palace], Pete developing films [photographs] in hotel room bathrooms, events and people in Concord and in Banff, going to Kobe for a few days before returning to Kyoto in early May, leaving Japan for China on the M.S. Choko Maru in mid-May, and arriving in Tientsin China.

- File pertains to 26 hand-written letters written by Catharine Robb Whyte to her mother, Edith Morse Robb from January 1 to March 13, 1934. Topics include New Yea's Eve celebrations, going to the movies, spending time on the beach, painting/sketching [including experimenting with watercolour paints and different kinds of paper], people and events in Concord and in Banff, descriptions of Honolulu and the local people [including dress, food, and boats], weather, watching US Navy ships and planes come in and out of Pearl Harbor, listening to the radio [mostly news and operas], sketching people on the beach, the other guests at their hotel, going out for meals, celebrating Pete's birthday, descriptions of meals, planning their trip to Japan, painting portraits of locals, making canvases and easels, developing films [photographs], the Moores and the Rungiuses arriving in early February, shopping, watching various military Reviews and parades [usually as part of ceremonies for visiting dignitaries], descriptions of various ships in port, flowers and trees, birds, showing some of their work at the Art Academy at the invitation of the Honolulu Art Association in early March, going to cocktail parties and dances with the Moores and Rungiuses, booking their passage to Japan with Canadian Pacific, and leaving Hawaii in mid-March.

- Please note: language pertaining to Indigenous Peoples used throughout is outdated and may be offensive. Few letters written on hotel/ship letterhead. Some letters contain small sketches of hotel/motel layouts, road layouts, and room/ship cabin details. Most letters are numbered in red pencil crayon in the upper margin of the first page as part of an unknown project. Some letters are marked with a small x in pencil, indicating where Jon Whyte made notes for use in his project "Catharine Robb Whyte, Peter Whyte: Commemorative Portfolio," originally published in 1981. 93 - 05 page 5 contains a sketch of the Moana Hotel's placement and general laylout in relation to the beach.
