A collection of four sewing kits. (a) small, plaid egg, hollow, wooden egg painted plaid tartan with six gold lines longitudinally around and small gold symbol plus the name "Stuart", egg splits at middle to open, with small lip on top, and vertical dowel glued into top to hold small round spool of white and brown thread. Dowel hollow with removable lid and holds straight pins.(b) black leather, arge, flat, U-shaped black leather case with snapping tab at centre of rounded side, opens flat. Lined with blue fabric, and arc shaped strip of leather stitched to one side forming loops to hold various sewing tools, other side has large elasticized pocket, containing various cardboard bobbins of thread. Six brass snaps spaced evenly around curved edge close kit securely. Leather loops hold small scissors, an ivory bobbin with thread, a thimble, a small brown striped silk needle book, a tapestry needle, and a double eyed needle with blunt point. Marks: on underside of snap tab, "London Harness co., Boston, coat of arms." (c) blue leather, smaller, but shaped as (b), lined with blue fabric, with small leather pocket at each and inside holding thread bobbin and needle package, slits and loops on pockets hold small scissors and safety pins. Marks: stamped under snap tab, "made in Germany". (d) green cardboard , matchbook shape which holds a cardboard square wrapped with thread and a needle stuck through, and a cellophane envelope holding two white buttons and a gold safety pin.

In a large, sturdy black, paper covered, wooden box and lid with brass slits at bottom of base, a collection of eighteen pincushions. 3 round(a) blue silk (10.0 x 5.5) short, puffy cylinder with design of five small hearts stitched around top, and diagonal lines around side, quilted with yellow thread, stuck with straight pins.( b) plaid (10.0 x 3.5) red and green tartan with wide blue and narrower yellow and white cross stripes. Puffy, wedge like sections formed with tight black stitching, dark blue grosgrain bow at top. (c) red satiny brocade (10.0 x 3.8) dark red, with green thread laced across top like wheel spokes. Holding on around sides are eight tiny silk clad figures with white painted faces peering upward, and black braided top knots. Base of red and white striped cotton.
