Description
An ink and pencil drawing of three men in uniform. Two of the men are normally scaled, but the third, central figure is scaled so that his head only reaches the knee of the other two men. All are wearing dark trousers, and what appears to be a belted military coats with large buttons. Their pillbox caps sit on the sides of their heads. All stand with perfect posture, but the third miniature figure’s back is to the viewer. Below this drawing reads: CHAPTER 2. To the bottom-right of the rightmost figure are the initials P.W.. In the space further to the right of the drawing is the inscription: TWO BURLY SENIOR CLASSMEN TOWERING OVER A SHIVERING RECRUIT. The beginnings of a pencil-sketched head, in a similar scale to the two larger figures appears to the right of the finished, ink figures. The numbers 800000000 (with zeros descending vertically) appear in the top left corner. Arrows from this inscription point to the two larger men.
