Description
A pair of empty boxes, a Royal Dry Plate and Photographic Dry Plates: Hammer Dry Plate Company used to store negatives. a) A Royal Dry Plate box with a label on the lid. Along the edge of the lid is a red border, in a dark brown square white text reads “ROYAL” “COMPLETE DIRECTIONS INSIDE PACKAGE” “FOR SALE BY ALL DEALERS IN PHOTOGRAPHIC GOODS”, an illustration of a take on the Royal Crest is in the middle of the label, and “Dry Plate MANUFACTURED BY CANADIAN KODAK CO. LIMITED TORONTO. CANADA”. One side of the lid has another label that is black with white text. The white text reads “1 DOZEN 4 x 5” “ROYAL PLATE” and “EMULSION NUMBER”. The bottom of the box is lined with tape, along the edges. The inside of the box is golden yellow. The lid is slightly too big for the box. b) A Hammer Dry Plate Company box with a intricate label, and smaller box inside. Along the edges is a red border, in the label is handwriting at the top “MOORE” “5001”, the text of label reads “PHOTOGRAPHIC DRY PLATES”, an illustration of the manufacturing building (?) and small hammer (?), in two small boxes on either side of the illustration, left one reads “KEEP IN DRY PLACE” and right one “OPEN IN DARK ROOM ONLY”, text underneath reads “These plates were made with utmost care; should they be found defective in manufacture, they will be replaced, but no further responsibility is assumed by us, as the plates are sold without warranty of any kind.” “HAMMER DRY PLATE COMPANY” “ST. LOUIS, MO.” On one side of the lid is another white label that reads “PROCESS” “HAMMER PLATES” “Record 3877” “1 DOZEN” “4 x 5”. When you remove the lid, there is a smaller box, simple boxes with black tape along the edges of the box and on the bottom part of the box. The interior of the box are golden yellow. 2.9 x 14.0 x 11.4 cm.

A pair of empty boxes, a Velox Developing Paper and a Edwards’ Isochromatic Snap Shot Plates, used to store negatives. a) A black box with yellow labels and tape around the edges. The label features lots of black text, some of the text reads “MUST BE KEPT DRY.” “TO BE OPENED ONLY IN DULL RUBY LIGHT.” “EDWARDS’” “TRADE XL MARK” “ISOCHROMATIC” “SNAP SHOT PLATES.” There is handwriting on the label, “George Paris” “Plates of old ????” and a scratched out note. A bit of the label wraps around one of the edges and reads “EDWARDS’” “TRADE XL MARK” “Snap Shot Iso, Plates.” with stamped numbers “8669” and “5 x 4”. On the bottom of the box is two identical red and white caution stickers, they read “CAUTION! YOU SHOULD USE NO OTHER DEVELOPERS THAN THOSE DESCRIBED IN THE ENCLOSED DIRECTIONS. LACK OF BROMIDE IN DEVELOPER GIVES GRAYISH WHITES. TOO MUCH OF IT, OR TOO WEAK OR OXIDIZED DEVELOPER WILL GIVE GREENISH OR BROWNISH LOOKING BLACKS.” There is also blue stamped text “No. 5791 - M18”. The interior of the box is golden yellow and pale cream. b) A black box with white and yellow labels. The label features lots of black text, some of the text reads “Open only in yellow or very subdued daylight.” “VELOX” “A Developing Paper.” There is handwriting on the label, “Family Negatives 1899-1905” and “George Paris” is a circle. There is another label, the yellow one, with more text and a logo for “NEPERA CHEMICAL COMPANY”, “Carbon VELOX” “MATT FOR CONTRASTY EFFECTS” “ONE GROSS” “4 x 5”. This label is featured on the opposite side of the lid. The label extends to the bottom of the box and features a warning, “CAUTION! YOU SHOULD USE NO OTHER DEVELOPERS THAN THOSE DESCRIBED IN THE ENCLOSED DIRECTIONS LACK OF BROMIDE IN DEVELOPER GIVES GRAYISH WHITES, TOO MUSH OF IT, OR TOO WEAK OR OXIDIZED DEVELOPER WILL GIVE GREENISH OR BROWNISH LOOKING BLACKS.” There is more scribbling and stamping on the bottom. Inside the box, on the interior of the lid is handwriting that is partially legible, “CPR 12” “Village 30.18” “Elk 18”. 3.0 x 13.8 x 11.2 cm.
