- Description
- Walrus hide model kayak with wooden paddle. One piece of hide stretched tautly over wooden frame and sewn together from tip to tip on top. Wooden frame is held together with rawhide. Wooden user hole is laced with rawhide. 2 rawhide thongs in front of user hole and 1 behind are laced through the top part of kayak which serves to hold the oar. (b) paddle, 39.0 cm long is carved into 3 sections, has 3 nail holes also. NOTE: Sanson didn’t make the kayak; it was “Purchased by Pete and Catharine Whyte from N.B. Sanson auction, October 22, 1949 for $4.50 plus other things”.
