- Calcite has coated the surface of a clump of moss to form this specimen. Fine detail of the moss structure has been preserved by the precipitation of calcite on the surface. All of the organic material is gone. This specimen was formed in close proximity to a mineral spring, quite likely from the hot springs in Banff.
