Lt. Col. Cyril G. Childe, d.1973, of Banff, Alberta, Canada was in the 1st Division Cyclists during the First World War and was active in militia and Legion activities in peace time.

File consists of 2 business expense journals from 1937 - 1938 and a record book for guests in Kidney Kabins between 1939 - 1953; a marriage certificate for Maud and Forest Kidney dated 1923; invoices for Banff Grocery and expenses pertaining to Elizabeth Woodworth's funeral; land sale agreements for properties in the town of Banff, and related financial documents and correspondence; a transfer of land agreement granting joint ownership of the Quaker Cafe in Banff between Forest and Maud Kidney; tax notice documents from 1945 and 1947; a cheque receipt in Forest Kidney's name for $3500 from 1946; a building permit granted for Forest Kidney by Cyril Childe in 1946; numerous lease renewal documents sent by J.F. Woodworth on behalf of Forest Kidney, 1945 - 1948; and a document granting power of attorney over Russell Exton Wilson's estate to his sister, Alice Mona Wilson in 1943.

History / Biographical
The Banff Zoo operated as a tourist attraction from about 1905 until 1937, when it was shut down due to concerns about animal cruelty. While it was open, the Banff Zoo held monkeys, cougars, a polar bear named "Buddy" [acquired in 1907], two bear cubs from 1915 onwards, and various other wildlife.

File consists of one album containing 35 black and white postcards and 1 colour postcard. Contents pertain to wildlife in the Rocky Mountains, including moose, bears, big horn sheep, buffalo, cougars, deer and elk, at least some of which were held in the Banff Zoo. File also contains images of Lethbridge [ca. 1909], Col. Cyril Childe [ca. 1920], Mt. Rundle, Niagara Canyon and other untitled views of the Canadian Rockies. One image depicting Lethbridge is dated 1909, stamped and annotated.
