History / Biographical: Mary Wright (Molly) Adams was born on 15 October 1868. in Ridgefield Connecticut. She was the third of five children born to Cornelia Ann Cook (1830-1902) and Daniel Lucius Adams (1814 - 1899) She died in Kobe, Japan on 23 January 1909 and was buried there.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of textual records, postcards, drawings and one photograph album pertaining to Mary (Molly) Wright Adams (1868-1909); transcripts of Molly's original letters which were compiled by Molly's sister, Catharine Elkin (nee Adams) between ca.1939 and 1941; and transcriptions of letters sent between Molly's extended family members [including members of the Adams, Cook and Wright families], ca.1844 and 1866. History / Biographical: Norman Titherington, 1894-1976, was a fire towerman in Banff National Park. Titherington came to Canada from England in 1919 following ranch work in Idaho and World War I service with the British Army. He visited the Rocky Mountains in 1940 and travelled throughout the backcountry on several extended trips. In 1949, he embarked on the seasonal career of a towerman at the Aylmer Fire Tower, serving until 1965

History / Biographical: The Wilson family were guides, outfitters and ranchers at Morley, Kootenay Plains, Banff and Nordegg, Alberta, Canada. Thomas Edmonds (Tom) Wilson, 1859- 1933, and Minnie McDougall Wilson, 1865-1936, had six children, including sons John Clark Wilson, 1888-1932, and Thomas Edmonds (Ed) Wilson, 1892-1973. Daughters were Ada, 1886-1967?, Rene, Bessie and Dora. Tom Wilson is credited with the discovery of Lake Louise in July of 1882, while working as a packer on the Canadian Pacific Railway survey through the mountains. In 1883, Wilson established his own business at Banff, Lake Louise and Field, British Columbia. After selling the business in 1904, Tom Wilson operated a horse ranch at Kootenay Plains. He later retired to Banff. Ed Wilson was born at Morley and raised in Banff. Around 1910 he began working for Brewster Trading Company at Banff and, later, Lake Louise. Just before the First World War, he moved to Nordegg, where he worked for the Bighorn Trading Company for many years.

Ed Wilson was an amateur photographer and likely took most of the views of staff at Lake Louise and of Nordegg.

History / Biographical: Ulysses LaCasse (or Ulysse; or La Casse), 1888-1972, was a trail guide and national park warden at Lake Louise and Banff, Alberta, Canada. LaCasse came to Banff in 1908 and worked in various cooking jobs including trail cook for surveys and trail outfits. He guided Caroline Hinman's trail riding groups before joining the Canadian Army in Europe and Siberia. LaCasse accompanied Byron Harmon, Soapy Smith and Louis Freeman on their five hundred mile expedition through the Canadian Rockies, 1924. LaCasse was a long-time warden in the Castle Mountain and Lake Louise districts

History / Biographical: The Woodworth family was a pioneer family of Banff, Alberta, Canada. Benjamin Franklin Woodworth, 1861-1920, and Fred Woodworth, 1860-1923, came to the Banff area in 1883, and established a homestead at the base of Cascade Mountain. They were sons of Douglas B. Woodworth, member of parliament in Nova Scotia who came to Banff briefly in 1883 regarding a claim on the hot springs at the Cave and Basin. Fred Woodworth became postmaster in Banff before returning to Nova Scotia some time after 1890. His only child, A.M. [Anna Maud?] Woodworth, died in Banff in 1890.; Ben Woodworth remained in Banff, working for the CPR on railway construction and later as stable foreman for the Banff Springs Hotel. He continued as stable foreman at the Sanitarium Hotel in 1892, moving to the Bankhead coal mine in 1905. In 1910 he became caretaker of the Buffalo Paddock, remaining in the position until his death in 1920 as a result of a horse-related accident.; In 1888, Benjamin Franklin Woodworth married Elizabeth Anne McIntyre (McIntire), 1868-1936, who had come to Banff in 1887 from Burnley, England. The Woodworths had eleven children: 1) Ethel, 1890-1958, married to Jack Edwards; 2) Benjamin Douglas, 1891-1956, a road builder with the federal government in Banff; 3) Joseph F., 1892-1976, a civil servant and realtor in Banff; 4) Ella Maude, 1894-1977, first married to Jack MacAulay who was killed in 1917, and later married to Forest H. Kidney; 5) Frederick A., 1895-1916, an electrician at the Bankhead Mine; killed in action in First World War; 6) Annie Elizabeth, 1897-1977, married to Ulysses LaCasse; 7) G. Percy "Beef", 1899-1966, Banff national park warden from 1921 to 1963; 8) Mary, 1900-1981, married to Howard J. History / Biographical: Andrew "Scotty" Wright, 1887-1960, was a national park warden, carpenter, guide and rancher at Banff and Morley, Alberta, Canada. Wright came to the mountains in 1905 after homesteading and worked for Banff National Park as a warden in the Bankhead, Spray River and Ghost River districts. He was employed in various other jobs related to guiding, construction, equipment maintenance and repairs between Donald, British Columbia and Banff during the 1930s and 1940s, as a camp foreman for the United States Army near the Columbia Icefield, 1942. Andrew "Scotty" Wright and Lillian Hunter Wright, 1890-1936, had two children, Mary, 1914-1968, and William (Bill) "Scotty", 1929-2003. Mary Wright Burles was manager at various times of Skoki Lodge, the Lake Louise Inn, Sunshine Lodge and the Bar C Ranch near Morley where her father often lived his later years.

Includes milage list and list/details of people met around Banff, including bankers, hotel staff, cleaning ladies, and the boy hired to cut the grass. Also notes the passing of Soapy Smith that winter. M67 / 3 - 2 : black leather diary, date 49 50 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to various motor car, hiking, horseback (orgranized by Caroline Hinman), and leisure trips taken around Banff, Jasper, and Yoho National Parks during the summer of 1949. Trips taken during the summer of 1950 mostly consist of Alpine Club of Canada activities and Camps and with the Sky Line Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies. Also includes details on milages for different motor car trips and people met over both summers. M67 / 3 - 3 : black leather diary, dated 51 52 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to various trips taken during the summers of 1951 and 1952. 1951 includes travel from the Paoli, Pennsylvania to Banff, stays at the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise, a camp based in Lake O'Hara (possibly as part of the Alpine Club of Canada), a night spent at the residence of Aileen Harmons [?], a trip with the Sky Line Trail Hikers, and another stay at the Banff Springs Hotel. 1952 includes many trips involving stays at the Banff Springs Hotel and other luxury hotels in Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, as well as trips with the ACC, the Sky Line Trail Hikers, and Caroline Hinman. Also includes lists of people met during both summers at various locations, highlights of Banff news (including the deaths of Hal Waterhouse and Col. Pertains to a 1953 trip that started in Banff (with stay at Banff Springs Hotel) before going to Jasper where Lillian Gest participated in an Alpine Club of Canada Camp, then a few days in Lake O'Hara (staying in the lodge) before returning to Banff and then heading home to Pennsylvania. Scope & Content: File pertains to seven diaries kept by Lillian Gest from 1957-1967 from travels throughout the Canadian Rockies, Europe, and the western United States. Includes: M67 / 4 - 1 : black leather diary, dated 57 58 59 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to the last few days of the summer 1957 trip carried over from M67 / 3 - 6, a trip in 1958 involving travel to Banff, the annual Alpine Club of Canada hike, staying at the Chateau Lake Louise, hiking in Lake O'Hara, and travel back to Pennsylvania. Trip details for 1959 include travelling by train from the United States to Montreal before continuing on to Banff where she took trips to Lake O'Hara and Skoki - entries for 1959 seem to end abruptly. Also includes lists of people met over the three years, equipment used for various trips, and a list of events since Sept. 1958 including the opening of the new Sulphur gondola on July 28, 1958, the tearing down of the Brewster stables on Spray Ave, and the conversion of the ski lodge to the Post Hotel in Lake Louise. M67 / 4 - 2 : black leather diary, dated 59 in red paint and end 1959-1962 on a piece of paper taped to the front cover. Pertains to the remainder of August 1959 (carried over from M67 / 4 - 2), and summer trips taken during 1960-1962 consisting of time spent around the Banff townsite, Lake O'Hara, and Bow Lake areas, annual organized hikes with the Alpine Club of Canada, as well as travel to and from Pennsylvania - usually by train. Also includes lists of people she met, new additions to staff at hotels Lillian Gest stayed at, luggage details, and events pertaining to Banff like construction projects, births, marriages, and deaths (including the death of Jack White in 1962, his house now being a library, and the fate of the grocery store he ran). M67 / 4 - 3 : black leather diary, dated 1962-1964 in red paint on the cover. Pertains to the end of Lillian Gest's 1962 summer trip (carried over from M76 / 4 - 2) and trips taken during the summers of 1963 and 1964. The 1963 summer consists of travel from Pennsylvania to Banff by train, stays at various hotels (including the Club House [possibly the Alpine Club of Canada Club House], Moraine Lake Lodge, and Emerald Lake Lodge), hiking trips in Revelestoke Park and Lake O'Hara, the annual Sky Line Trail Hikers trip, and alternating between stays in Lake O'Hara and at the Club House before returning home.
