- File pertains to a photograph album depicting trips taken by Lillian Gest, usually during the summer, from 1934-1937. The 1934 trip was part of the Alpine Club of Canada Annual Camp in northern Jasper National Park - starting in the Eremite Mountain area and working east towards Mount Edith Cavell. Also includes a few photographs of mountains around the Banff town area. The 1935 trip was part of the ACC Annual Camp in the Mt. Assiniboine and East Kootenay areas. Also includes newspaper clippings pertaining to Club activities and greeting cards from Club members. The photographs associated with the Yoho Icefields from Bow Lake trip are most likely from the summer of 1936 based on greeting cards labelled as such, but very few of the photographs themselves are annotated. The remainder of the album is dedicated to the 1937 trips to Mt. Trident, Mt. Bryce, the Columbia Icefield area, Bryce and Zion, Utah, the Boulder Dam, Arizona, and Colorado. Also includes Christmas cards from 1937 from various friends and Club members. Inserts pertain to the overview/advertisements for the summer 1937 and 1938 trips that would have been sent out by Caroline Hinman in advance detailing routes, expectations, and prices ; a small photograph with a written note on the back, a letter addressed to Lillian Gest from the Springfield Television Broadcasting Corp, and a handwritten list of details pertaining to the summer 1934 trip orgainized by Caroline Hinman.

- History / Biographical
- Ernest Feuz, born 1889 in Interlaken, Switzerland was the son of Edouard Feuz Sr., one of two Swiss guides brought to Glacier House, B.C. in 1899 by the CPR. In 1909, the second generation of Swiss guides including Ernest Feuz and his two brothers Walter and Edward Jr., along with Rudolf Aemmer and Christian Hasler Jr. began guiding for the CPR during the summer months and returned to Switzerland for the winter. In 1912, Ernest settled at the Swiss village of Edelweiss, near Golden, B.C., constructed by the CPR in 1911. Glacier House closed in 1925 and Ernest Feuz began guiding primarily out of Lake Louise, the Swiss Guides Headquarters. During the winter months, the Swiss guides did maintenance work at Lake Louise and were responsible for maintaining the buildings and snow removal. Ernest Feuz led numerous climbing parties and rescue operations throughout his career, retiring from the CPR guiding service in 1954.

Second photograph album [ca.1910]-1954 has some later prints added by donors - up to 1976. Textual records consist of marriage and birth certificates of Ernest and Elise Feuz, 1912-1954; military service booklet of Ernest Feuz, 1908-1925; fuhrerbuch of E. Feuz, 1909-1927; notebook of Ernest Feuz (cash from clients, 1913-1921 and snow report, 1921-1924); business cards and Swiss Guides tariff for climbing, Chateau Lake Louise, n.d.

Curren, painting David Bearspaw, hiking at Lake O'Hara with Skyline Trail Hikers [with participant names], a visit with Mary Vaux in Banff, a Pacific Relations Conference at the Banff Springs Hotel and cleaning the house expecting visits from participants, Catharine discussing Adolf Hitler with a Swiss man visiting the house, a boat trip with the White Family and Allen Mather to Lake Minnewanka, meeting Mr. Anasaki from the Conference [an old friend of Edward Morse] and looking at Catharine's Japanese collection with Mr. Miyoaka and Mr. Takaki, Peter taking photographs at the Indigenous Camp during Banff Indian Days, Peter receiving a beaded coat from Mrs. Jonie, buying some items from the Indigenous Camp that belonged to Old Hector [Crawler?], Jackie heading east to meet Barbara before the birth of their child, and Peter and Catharine heading east via the United States to attend the World Fair and visit Edith Morse Robb and then family in Gorham, Maine.

- Please note: language pertaining to Indigenous Peoples, people of colour, and those of the Jewish faith used throughout is outdated and offensive. Letters are all handwritten and typewritten and include some hotel, business and camp letterheads. Some letters are marked with a small x in pencil, indicating where Jon Whyte made notes for use in his project "Catharine Robb Whyte, Peter Whyte: Commemorative Portfolio," originally published in 1981. Some letters also have numbers written in pencil crayon, believed to be from when originally processed.

Pertains to various motor car, hiking, horseback (orgranized by Caroline Hinman), and leisure trips taken around Banff, Jasper, and Yoho National Parks during the summer of 1949. Trips taken during the summer of 1950 mostly consist of Alpine Club of Canada activities and Camps and with the Sky Line Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies. Also includes details on milages for different motor car trips and people met over both summers. M67 / 3 - 3 : black leather diary, dated 51 52 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to a 1953 trip that started in Banff (with stay at Banff Springs Hotel) before going to Jasper where Lillian Gest participated in an Alpine Club of Canada Camp, then a few days in Lake O'Hara (staying in the lodge) before returning to Banff and then heading home to Pennsylvania. The summer of 1954 consisted of a motor car trip originating in Pennsylvania that worked west through Michigan, North Dakota, and Montana before reatching Banff. Pertains to the last few days of Lillian Gest's 1954 motor car trip, detailing the second half from Banff back to Pennsylvania and the 1955 trips to Banff, Mount Robson, the annual Alpine Club of Canada Camp, Lake Louise, Lake O'Hara, and Vancouver. Also includes lists of people Gest met in various locations throughout 1955 and a brief list of changes in Banff, including tree cutting for the new Trans Canada Highway, the opening of the new Timberline Hotel, and expansions of the Mount Royal Hotel and the Upper Hot Springs. M67 / 3 - 6 : black leather diary, dated 56 57 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to various hiking, motor car, and scenic trips taken by Lillian Gest throughout the Canadian Rockies during the summers of 1956 and 1957. Also includes lists of people met both summers, phone numbers for people both in Banff and in Pennsylvania, details pertaining to an Alpine Club of Canada 1956 photo competition that Gest entered, and a brief list of mostly construction-related updates from Banff and Lake Louise. One small newspaper clipping insert dated Aug 24, 1956 notes the funeral details for Mary Thorpe Gest. Also includes loose items consisting of letters (mostly addressed to Lillian Gest), brochures for the Sky Line Trail Hikers and the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, tellegrams, trip itineraries and cost listings, and newspaper clippings.

Summer 1924 consists of early details for a trip organized by Caroline Hinman and mainly of lists of names of those included. Summer 1981 consists of time spent predominantly in and around the Lake Louise and Lake O'Hara areas, with shorter stays in Banff at the beginning and end of the trip. Also includes details of a climbing trip two people took over Wenkchemna Pass on Aug 9, lists of people met, staff of businesses around Banff, and telephone numbers. Also includes loose items consisting of notes to self, a postcard, a photograph, guest lists and itineraries for the Sky Line Trail Hikers, and newspaper clippings.
