History / Biographical: Charles (Chic) C. Scott, b.1945, is a mountaineer, mountain guide and writer based in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Scott climbed extensively in the western Canada and the Himalayas until the mid-1970s. He guided extensively in the European Alps for five seasons, ca.1970, and worked as a climber for "The Eiger Sanction," a Hollywood movie starring Clint Eastwood. Scott resumed climbing in 1988, after a period working at the University of Calgary. His publications include "Alpinism," editor, "Ski Trails in the Canadian Rockies," "The History of the Calgary Mountain Club", "Summits and Icefields", "Pushing the Limits: the Story of Canadian Mountaineering", "Powder Pioneers : Ski Stories from the Canadian Rockies and Columbia Mountains", and "Deep Powder and Steep Rock : the Life of Mountain Guide Hans Gmoser".

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of interviews, research notes,manuscripts, printed and digital photographs, and other materials produced and collected by Chic Scott between 1982 and 2021. Content pertains to Chic's various publications and research projects, the Canadian Himalayan Foundation, the Canadian '82 Everest Expedition, and collected and personal materials. History / Biographical: Malcolm Daniel Geddes, 1866-1927, was a journalist, publisher and mountaineer at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geddes was one of the founders of the "Farmers and Ranch Review" in 1904, and served as vice-president and editor until his death. He joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1917, was active in ACC summer camps and served as Honorary Secretary from 1924 to 1926. Geddes was killed in a mountaineering accident on Mount Lefroy in 1927.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of textual and visual records pertaining to Malcolm Geddes, as well as his immediate family: wife Jennie (Waters) Geddes, and children Alvin and Enid Geddes; and extended family members. History / Biographical: Dr. Jean Knox (McDonald) Petrie, born 1913, was an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada, Edmonton Section during the 1930s and 1940s, attending the Alpine Club of Canada summer camps from 1937-1940, 1942 and 1946 as well as making many weekend climbs in the Jasper area with Captain E. R. Gibson. In 1938 she was one of the four women to make a first ascent of Mount Columbia by women, as well as Mount Forbes in 1940. Married in 1960 to Robert Petrie (died 1966), Dr. Jean Petrie worked in Ottawa, Ontario (1940-1945) in munitions gauge testing for the National Research Council. Following the war, she worked as an astrophysicist for the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, British Columbia (1945-1966) and taught at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. (1966-1971).

Scope & Content: Fonds relate to mountaineering with the Alpine Club of Canada. The fond consists of three series: I. Textual records consist of 8 newsclippings from July 1938 pertaining to the first ascent of Mount Columbia by women: Lillian Gest, Kathleen Chapman, Christine Reid, Jean McDonald, and Jean Petrie as well as a photocopied "Guide to the Tonquin" signed by K. G. Chapman ca.1935. II. Photographic records include an unbound album of 44 pages: 111 prints divided by the donor into 3 sections: 1. To the Tonquin Valley, July 1938; 2. Alpine Club Camp, Columbia Icefields, July 12-31, 1938; 3. Alpine Club Camp Tonquin Valley, April 1939. The album also includes artwork and map. A second unbound photograph album of 28p: 170 prints are divided into 5 sections: 1. ACC camp in the Ice River Valley, July 1939; 2. ACC ski camp in Little Yoho Valley, March 23-31, 1940; 3. Includes: M67 / 2 - 1 : black leather diary, dated 40 in red paint (possibly ink) on the front cover. Pertains to trips taken to Jasper Park Lodge, Glacier Lake Camp, the Icefields Chalet, and Emerald Lake during the summer of 1940. Includes details of movies and photographs taken at the back of the diary. M67 / 2 - 2 : black leather diary, dated 41 in red paint (possibly ink) on the front cover. Pertains to trips to the Chateau Lake Louise. Twin Falls, and Emerald Lake taken during the summer of 1941. At least part of the summer was spent attending a motor car tour organized by Caroline Hinman. Also includes lists of names and addresses of other people who attended Hinman's tour, as well as details on milage and on films and photographs taken. M67 / 2 - 3 : black plastic 6-ring diary. Pertains to a collection of trip notes, mostly trips throughout the Canadian Rockies, from summer 1942 to summer 1945. Mostly consists of place names, people, and trip highlights - not much detail. M67 / 2 - 4 : black leather diary, dated 42 43 in red paint (possibly ink) on the front cover. Pertains to Alpine Club of Canada Camp at Consolation Lakes (July 19-24) and a stay at Deer Lodge at Lake Louise (Aug 16-22) in 1942, an informal ACC Camp at Lake O'Hara and a stay at Deer Lodge (Aug 16-18). For both summers she notes "In Browne House, Banff" which possibly could have been a home available for rent. Also includes details pertaining to the various costs of the trips (years not specified), the fish hatchery, a list of home movies from 1942, a list of stills (no date), and a list of equipment used at the ACC Camp in 1943. M67 / 2 - 5 : black leather diary, dated 44 45 in red paint on the front cover. Pertains to trips taken by Lillian Gest during the summers of 1944 and 1945. 1944 includes travelling from Toronto to Banff, staying at the Browne House (presumably a guest house or other such rental property), annual Alpine Club of Canada Camp in Paradise Valley, Trial Riders of the Canadian Rockies trip to Fatique Pass and Eohippus Lake. 1945 inlcudes travelling from Toronto to Banff, staying at the Browne House, annual ACC Camp in Larch Valley, Sky Line Trail Hikers trip in Lake O'Hara (Aug 3-6), and a trip with A. Harmon [?] to graveyard cabin and Summet Pass. Also includes a list of people met during these trips, a list of equipment left in the Browne House (1944), trees local to the Canadian Rockies, and a small sketch of downtown Banff focussed around the Bow River Bridge. M67 / 2 - 6 : black leather diary, dated 46 47 in red paint on the front cover. Trips taken during the summer of 1946 include staying at the Chateau Lake Louise (June 29-July 12), Emerald Lake [Lodge?] (July 12-Aug 2), annual Alpine Club of Canada Camp in the Bugaboos (July 13-24), Mitchell Hut, Yoho (July 26-30), Banff (Aug 2-Sept 3), and Bow Lake (Aug 3-9).
