Alphabetical files, [ca.1985]-1991; predominant 1989-1991, 68 original files; as well as appropriate loose files found throughout the fonds before arrangement. Includes files established and maintained both by Jon Whyte and by Whyte Museum staff on his behalf. Files contain both textual and photographic material
- Original series 1: Alphabetical files, 1976-1983, 256 original files, include mainly published materials in reference files and correspondence files by correspondent. Includes magazines articles, periodicals, conference materials, etc. with notes; some incoming correspondence, poetry by others, photographs.
- Original series 2: Alphabetical files, [ca.1970-1991]; predominant 1980s, 184 original files, consists of reference files established to organize Whyte's reference materials of people, organizations and topics. Includes Whyte's letters, articles, writings, and notes; research photocopies and photographic copies (of material dating from after 1880); published ephemera; incoming letters, etc. Files pertain to Canadian Rockies personalities; conservation and heritage organizations; Jon Whyte projects; Banff history and heritage; national parks; mountains; Canadian Rockies natural and human history. Includes some Whyte Museum records and some personal papers. Jon Whyte projects include "Rumours of a Parade (Banff history); "Ford on Bow" (Canadian Rockies human history); St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church history; Mount Logan trip. Numerous individuals are represented.
- Original series 3: Alphabetical files, [ca.1985]-1991; predominant 1989-1991, 68 original files, includes files pertaining to writing, conferences, Bow Valley Naturalists, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies duties, correspondents, manuscripts, published materials. Some file titles were assigned by J.W., others were assigned by Whyte Museum staff.

- History / Biographical
- Ebenezer William (Bill) Peyto, 1868-1943, was a guide, outfitter, prospector and national park warden at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Peyto was prominent among the early trail guides of the Rockies, beginning a colourful career ca.1893. He led a number of mountaineers into climbing regions until ca.1910. Peyto served in both the Boer and First World Wars, worked a talc mine on the edge of Banff National Park and was a national park warden for over twenty years, retiring in 1937. Peyto Lake, Peyto Glacier, Peyto Peak and Trapper Peak were named in his honour.

- Fonds consists of papers pertaining to Peyto's Boer War service, photography and personal matters and photographs produced and collected by Peyto. Includes resolution of the American Alpine Club commending Peyto for his aid in the rescue of Margaret Stone on July 24, 1921 from Eon Mountain. Mrs. Stone was stranded after the accidental death of Dr. W. E. Stone on July 17, 1921. Photographs pertain to Bill Peyto, clients and trips in the Rocky Mountains; also Banff townsite views and events, wildlife and scenic views, ca.1900-ca.1940. Includes large framed portrait of Bill Peyto.

Topics include day to day life, Banff events, visits from friends, painting, photography, wildlife, travel, camping, weather, events and people in Concord, radio programs [mostly news and hockey games], various holidays [both Canadian and American], seeing off Carl Rungius to New York, going to Edmonton for a cataract operation on Peter's right eye [August 23] - Catharine's time in Edmonton mostly consisted of sitting with Peter in the hospital, running errands in the city, and answering letters [she stayed at the Corona Hotel], starting construction of eventual Buffalo Block [consisting of three stores along Buffalo St. and a restaurant on the second floor], concerns regarding Edith's health, a visit to Concord from mid-October to mid-November [travelled by train], a second visit to Edmonton in December for Peter's eye, putting together their annual Christmas card, and other Christmas activities. Some letters are typed and some hand-written. Also includes one postcard.
