Description: Boxed off is a study of balance. There are six separate drawings to emphasis balance in architecture, specifically windows. Mount Rundle rises up behind the Hotel. A flagpole, trees and coloured tents are dispersed through the crowd in the middle of the painting.

Description: The painting is divided into three sections. Each section features a different house from the Banff area. Two wide blue stripes divide the three sections from each other. The first home on the left side is seen through small groups of trees. This log home with a wrap around verandah was built in 1920 by Norman Luxton for Dr. Brett of the Brett Sanitarium. The current owner is John Peck and official address is 514 Buffalo Street. The second home is white in colour and was built in 1913 by Joseph Bannerman and it’s location in Banff is 602 Buffalo Street. The third home featured on this painting is currently owned by Mr. Blake O’Brian and is located at 214 Muskrat Street, Banff.

The front door is framed on either side by colourful hanging clothes and Aivo chairs, one on each side. In the background to the right is another cabin. Behind and above are trees, a patch of grey sky in the upper right corner and a purple mountain face in the upper left.The painting was originally given by the artist, to Syd Graves (who managed Lake O’Hara for many years). It was then given to Bill Brewster, who gave it to Rita Crick, who gave it to the Peter Whyte Gallery.
