History / Biographical: The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a trail riding organization based in Calgary, Alberta. The organization was established in 1923 with the support of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The first ride was held in 1924, and annual summer trail rides and pow-wows attracted fifteen hundred members by 1929. Many notable residents of the Bow Valley, including members of the Brewster and Moore families, Catherine Robb and Peter Whyte, and Carl Rungius have participated in trail rides. Support from the Canadian Pacific Railway ended in 1961. As of 2020, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies remains an active organization. History / Biographical: In the 1920's, Banff experienced a steady increase in tourism. This was based on a number of factors, including the introduction of the automobile in the park, the completion of the Banff-Windermere Highway and other roadways, additional accommodation (e.g. campgrounds), and the Canadian Pacific Railway's "Canadian Pacific Rockies" tourist campaign. Local prominent townspeople began to seek more say in the way their town was governed, and thus created organizations like the Banff Advisory Council and the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association. Issues around park boundaries, campgrounds, and park services employees' priorities were particularly important to Banff locals during this decade.

Scope & Content: Item consists of a bound green record book, H20 x W13 cm. The record book, with "Records" printed on the cover, is comprised of numbered lined pages and contains meeting minutes and membership lists for the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association from March 13th, 1924 to circa 1930. Minutes pertain to different types of meetings: general and executive. Contents pertain to various topics, including the creation of the Association and membership, provincial Liberal candidates, electing members for the Association's executive committee, concerns about who was being appointed to park services, employment in the park, advocating for the dismissal of Jack Warren (a park warden), and park boundary issues.

Notes: Created by the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association.; Dave White originally had the lease for 222 Otter Street and transferred the lease to Sam Armstrong in 1915, who had it until 1927. Sam Armstrong was a member of the Rocky Mountain Liberal Association.; Membership included representatives from Banff, Canmore, Exshaw, and East End. Meetings were generally held at the Mount Royal Hotel in Banff and the Canmore Hotel.; Most of the minutes were taken by W. Alexander and James Smith, who both acted as secretary at some point in the Association's history.

History / Biographical: William McCartney Davidson (1872-1942) was born in Ontario and worked as a journalist in Toronto before moving to Calgary and purchasing "The Albertan" newspaper in 1902. William published the newspaper for 24 years, before selling the company in 1926. William and his wife, Ethel Heydon (? - 1969), moved to Victoria, British Columbia in 1930. Between 1938 and his death in 1942, William wrote a daily editorial article for The Albertan titled "Today, Tomorrow and Yesterday".

Scope & Content: Scrapbook consists of newspaper articles from the "Today, Tomorrow and Yesterday" column by W.M. Davidson, November 1938 - April 1939. Scrapbook also contains ten pages of typed notes from the Special General Meeting of the National Federation of Liberal Women of Canada dated early April, 1952.

Scope & Content: File consists of 14 colour and b&w oversized promotional posters and information boards for Banff Indian Days celebrations, promoted by Canadian Pacific. Posters largely feature identified and unidentified Indigenous people, notably Chief Spotted Eagle and Blind Eagle. Art medium includes oil paint process mounted on cardboard made in Canada and distributed by Exhibits Branch Canadian Pacific, lithographic prints, and a mounted drawing attributed to Palenske. Some have annotations or stamps on the back.

Notes: Possibly unassociated shipping packing material addressed to Norman Luxton at the Trading Post from E.A. Kehr found in box - this has not been assigned a number. D3-10, a lithographic promotional material from 1936 has an identical design to LUX / II / F1 / 47, an Indian Days poster from 1928 Items LUX / I / D3 / 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 were originally associated with LUX / I / D3a / 6, which contains brochures and a flyer from Banff Indian Days LUX / I / D3 / 8, Palenske may have potentionally used photograph LUX / I / D3a / PA-26 as reference
