- History / Biographical
- Edward Feuz Jr., 1884-1981, was a Canadian Pacific Railway mountain guide at Lake Louise, Alberta and Glacier and Golden, British Columbia, Canada. Feuz was the son of one of the first Swiss Guides brought to Canada by the Canadian Pacific Railway. He climbed at Field and Glacier House in 1903 with his father and guided during summers from 1905 to 1912, settling that year in the Edelweiss Village at Golden, British Columbia. Until his retirement in the 1950s, he accompanied the finest climbers and was involved in over seventy first ascents of peaks over 3048 metres.

- Fonds consists of photographs, 1911-ca.1958; professional papers, 1901-1957; letters, 1941-1961; scrapbook, 1923-1972; and newsclippings, 1969.
- Photographs pertain mainly to mountaineering trips and climbs, mainly led by Edward Feuz Jr. in the Rocky and Selkirk Mountains, and includes many first ascents. Many photographs were taken by clients who sent copies to Feuz. Photographs also pertain to clients, associates and friends, Lake Louise Chalet and Chateau Lake Louise, Lake Louise area, Feuz homes at Edelweiss and Golden, and scenic views in the Rocky and Selkirk Mountains. Negatives are largely unidentified. Original colour transparencies by Edward Feuz, ca.1950-ca.1976, pertain to trips and scenic views in the Rocky Mountains. ; Professional papers include: Feuz's fuhrer-buch (guidebook) containing his certification as a Swiss Guide and testimonials from clients in Switzerland and Canada, 1901-1957; certificate of life membership, Alpine Club of Canada, 1947; and records of climbs re the Chateau Lake Louise, 1913-1930. Letters, scrapbook and clippings all pertain to Feuz's career, clients and mountaineering.

- History / Biographical
- Dr. Jean Knox (McDonald) Petrie, born 1913, was an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada, Edmonton Section during the 1930s and 1940s, attending the Alpine Club of Canada summer camps from 1937-1940, 1942 and 1946 as well as making many weekend climbs in the Jasper area with Captain E. R. Gibson. In 1938 she was one of the four women to make a first ascent of Mount Columbia by women, as well as Mount Forbes in 1940. Married in 1960 to Robert Petrie (died 1966), Dr. Jean Petrie worked in Ottawa, Ontario (1940-1945) in munitions gauge testing for the National Research Council. Following the war, she worked as an astrophysicist for the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, British Columbia (1945-1966) and taught at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. (1966-1971).

- Fonds relate to mountaineering with the Alpine Club of Canada. The fond consists of three series: I. Textual records consist of 8 newsclippings from July 1938 pertaining to the first ascent of Mount Columbia by women: Lillian Gest, Kathleen Chapman, Christine Reid, Jean McDonald, and Jean Petrie as well as a photocopied "Guide to the Tonquin" signed by K. G. Chapman ca.1935. II. Photographic records include an unbound album of 44 pages: 111 prints divided by the donor into 3 sections: 1. To the Tonquin Valley, July 1938; 2. Alpine Club Camp, Columbia Icefields, July 12-31, 1938; 3. Alpine Club Camp Tonquin Valley, April 1939. The album also includes artwork and map. A second unbound photograph album of 28p: 170 prints are divided into 5 sections: 1. ACC camp in the Ice River Valley, July 1939; 2. ACC ski camp in Little Yoho Valley, March 23-31, 1940; 3. Our climb of Roche Miette, May 24, 1940; 4. Our summertime journey into the Little Yoho Valley, July 1940; 5. Our climb of Mts. Fitzwilliam & Bucephelas, September 3, 1940. III. Photographic Prints consist of 4 loose prints unrelated to other contents of the fond.

Topics include travelling from Bali to Djokja [the Dutch name for present-day Yogyakarta] in Indonesia, travelling by car [via ferries] and by train, descriptions of the countrysides they travelled through and of local towns and villages, language barriers, descriptions of meals and various types of local dishes, travelling through the island of Java on the way to Sumatra, comments on and descriptions of other people encountered while travelling, weather, photography, developing films [photographs], people and events in Concord, travelling across Sumatra by car, volcanoes, local wildlife [mostly birds and monkeys], observations on local farms and farming techniques/products, books and magazines Pete and Catharine are reading, leaving Sumatra for France on the M.S. Topics include skiing and watching skiing events in Switzerland, descriptions of meals, local community events and activities [such as Carnivals], meeting with friends, news pertaining to Hitler's movements in Europe, weather, people and events in Concord, photography, leaving Switzerland in April in order to drive to Norway for the summer [includes driving through Germany, Denmark, and Sweden], descriptions of European roads [particularly the Autobahn] and various road-side amenities, visiting art galleries and museums, going to the movies, various holidays [mostly American], descriptions of ski hills and conditions in Norway, sightseeing, painting/sketching, architecture and buildings, exploring the islands off of Norway's northern coast [mostly by the ferry "Princess Ragnhild"] for a few weeks in late May to early June, camping, leaving Norway for Scotland in late June, and heading for Concord in early July. Also includes postcards.

Pertains to the summer 1977 trip to the Canadian Rockies with stays around the Banff, Lake Louise, and Lake O'Hara areas, hikes with and without the Sky Line Trail Hikers and the Alpine Club of Canada, and between Banff and Pennsylvania. Also includes birds seen at Lake O'Hara, lists of staffs and people met, and events from Banff in 1977 (including the construction of the Sundance Mall and Elizabeth Rummel's 80th birthday that March). M67 / 6 - 4 : black leather diary, titled June 21, 1978 to June 26, 1979 to Aug 5, 1979 on a piece of paper taped to the front cover. Pertains to the summer trips of 1978 and 1979 to the Canadian Rockies. Summer 1978 includes stays in the Banff, Lake Louise, Lake O'Hara, and Field BC areas as well as many hiking trips with and without organizations like the Alpine Club of Canada and the Sky Line Trail Hikers. Summer 1979 includes stays in the Banff and Lake O'Hara areas, hiking trips, and travel between Banff and Pennsylvania by air. Also includes lists of staff names, phone numbers, and people met, histories and timelines for the Lake Louise area and Simpson's Ranch, distances, and events (including the marriage of Carole Harmon to Stephen Hutchings, summer 1978). M67 / 6 - 5 : black leather diary, titled August 5-25 1979 - Sun July 6-1980 to Aug 2 1980 on a piece of paper taped to the front cover. Pertains to the last few weeks of the summer 1979 trip (carried over from M67 / 6 - 4) and the summer 1980 trip. The summer 1980 trip included time spent in and around the Banff, Lake Louise, and Lake O'Hara areas, as well as hiking trips and details pertaining to travelling between Banff and Pennsylvania. Also includes detailed lists of equipment for 1980 &1981, a small list of notes (including selling prices for a book called "Mt. Assiniboine" written by Lillian Gest), and lists of people met. M67 / 6 - 6 : black leather diary, dated 1981 on an adhesive paper label torn in half. Pertains to first two weeks of July 1924 summer trip and summer 1981. Summer 1924 consists of early details for a trip organized by Caroline Hinman and mainly of lists of names of those included. Summer 1981 consists of time spent predominantly in and around the Lake Louise and Lake O'Hara areas, with shorter stays in Banff at the beginning and end of the trip. Also includes details of a climbing trip two people took over Wenkchemna Pass on Aug 9, lists of people met, staff of businesses around Banff, and telephone numbers. Also includes loose items consisting of notes to self, a postcard, a photograph, guest lists and itineraries for the Sky Line Trail Hikers, and newspaper clippings.
