- Jimmy Simpson Sr. was a backpacker and outfitter in the Banff / Rocky Mountains region. He built the Num-Ti-Jah Lodge near Bow Lake which him and his wife Williamina ran from 1920 - 1945, and led many hunting and climbing expeditions in the area. Jimmy and Williamina had three children: Jimmy Simpson Jr. (who took over the Lodge in 1945), and daughters Margaret and Mary Simpson who became famous as professional ice skaters, the 'Simpson Sisters' in the late 1930's.

- A collection of 18 medals belonging to Banff speed skater Stanley Johnson. The medals are pinned on a wood shield covered with faded black velvet. From viewer’s left, the medals are as follows:(a) is silver, round, and measures 2.8cm in diameter. The front has a relief of a head and neck of a Bighorn sheep; a ram with curling horns. Above the ram’s head is the word “BANFF” in raised printing, on the viewer’s left of the ram’s neck “WINTER”, and on the viewer’s right “SPORTS”. Engraved on the back of the medal, at the top, an arced “440 -YD SKATE” under that “1922”. On the bottom an arced “STERLING” and underneath it appears to say “BANFF” but is indiscernible.(b) is gold in the shape of a Maltese cross and measures 3.20cm square. There is a circular medal superimposed on the cross. In the middle is a relief of a speed skater in action; underneath the skater is a laurel wreath. Engraved on the back is “B.W.C.”, under that “SKATING”, under that “220” “SR”, under that “ -1923-” (between the “19” and the “23” is the solder point for the the circle on the front), and under that “1st”. On the bottom of the medal is bar over an “R” and a bar underneath.(c) is a silver medal; a bar pin (3.50cmx1.0 at its widest part), from which, suspended by a red and yellow ribbon looped through a metal ring, is a circular medal measuring 2.90cm in diameter. The bar pin has a scrolled top and a rectangular framed space in which “FIRST PRIZE” is engraved in italics. There is a hinged pin fastened by a metal clasp on the back of the bar pin. The suspended circular medal has a bound wreath of laurel leaves around the rim and inside the circle of leaves these words are engraved in a rimmed circle “EDMONTON - WINTER - CARNIVAL” and inside another rimmed circle in the middle “SENIOR” and underneath “ONE MILE”. On the back, on the top “Won by” is engraved in script and on the bottom “STERLING” and something indiscernable (a hallmark).(d) A gold six-pointed star (3.50cm) interspersed with maple leaves. There is a circlular medal superimposed on the cross. In the middle is a relief of a speed skater in action; underneath the skater is a laurel wreath. On the back “B.W.C., under that “SKATING” under that “880 Sr”, under that something that looks like“ -19 indiscernible-” (between the “19” and the indiscernible is the solder point for the the circle on the front) and under that “1st” underlined and ”-1924--” underlined. On the bottom of the medal is bar over an “R” and a bar underneath.(e) is silver, round, and measures 2.8cm in diameter. The front has a relief of the head and neck of a Bighorn sheep; a ram with curling horns. Engraved on the back “B.W.C.”, under that “SKATING”, under that “1 MILE”, under that something indiscernible (could be a scroll), under that “-1st-”, and under that “1924”. On the bottom of the medal is bar over an “R” and a bar underneath.(g) is gold, only three-quarters is a circle (2.40cm diameter) as there is a scrolled bottom. There is a beaver on top of a shield; engraved on the shield “EDMONTON - WINTER - CARNIVAL” under that “1923”. On both sides of the engraved shield there are maple leaves. Engraved on the back “2nd”, under that arced “SEN. 220YDS RACE”, under that “WON BY”. On the bottom of the medal something that looks like a star in a circle followed by a star (hallmarks).(h) is gold, only three-quarters of the medal is a circle (2.40cm diameter), as there is a scrolled bottom. There is a beaver on top an shield; engraved on the shield “EDMONTON - WINTER - CARNIVAL” under that “1923”. On both sides of the engraved shield there are maple leaves. Engraved on the back “-SEN-”, under that arced “440YDS. RACE”, under that “2nd”, under that “WON BY”. On the bottom of the medal something that looks like a star in a circle followed by a star (hallmarks).(i) is a silver medal measuring 3.0cmx2.50cm wide; a shield superimposed on three cutout scrolls on top and a cutout wreaths of leaves around the medal, with the crossed stems on the bottom. Engraved on the shield is “EDMONTON”, under that “WINTER”, under that “CARNIVAL”, under that “1923”. On the back is engraving “3RD”, underneath that “800 YDS RACE”, under that “WON BY”. On the bottom, viewer’s left, the word “STERLING” is imprinted.(j) an elaborately scrolled silver frame measuring 4.50cmx3.80cm wide, surrounding a rimmed circlular medal dropped in and soldered. In the middle of the circle is a figure of a speed skater; underneath the skater is a laurel wreath. Engraved on the back “EDMONTON”, under that “SKATING”, under that “CARNIVAL”, under that, “1924” under that, in script “Blatchford Cup”, under that “-1MILE-”, “WON BY” S. JOHNSON”. On the middle of the bottom ‘STERLING” and “925” and something indiscernible.(k) a silver Maltese cross shape (measuring 3.0cmx3.0cm ) with a superimposed circular medal soldered on in the middle. In the middle of the circle is a figure of a speed skater; underneath him is a laurel wreath. Engraved in an arc over the skater is “BANFF W.S. 1925”. On the back of the medal, engraved in the middle “2ND” and underneath “440YDS”; printed on the bottom “STERLING 925” and something indiscernible.(l) a gold Maltese cross shape (measuring 3.0cmx3.0cm ) with a rimmed circlular silver medal dropped in and soldered on. - History / Biographical
- Banff Winter Carnival, also known as Winter Sports of the Canadian Rockies, was the first post-war winter sports programme held in Banff, Alberta. The organization had Banff directors, Calgary directors and Directors-at-large from Alberta and outside the province. A wide variety of social and sports events took place under the organization's direction.

- File consists of prints and negatives depicting Banff Winter Carnival events including ski jumping, hockey, figure skating, log chopping competitions, toboggan races, swimming contests, dog sled races, ice sculptures and queen contests between 1920 and 1949, primarily from the 1920s. Includes snowshoe hikes, Sunshine Ski Camp, and personal motor trips to Lake Minnewanka. File includes photographs and prints by Lou Crosby, Dan McCowan, Byron Harmon. Some prints are stamped or annotated by the photographer and include processing receipts and original housing envelopes.

- History / Biographical
- Raphel (Ray) Bagley, 1880-1973, was a rancher and guide in the Red Deer, Onion Lake and Coleman districts of Alberta, Canada. Bagley came to the Lacombe district of Alberta in 1892. He homesteaded and ranched while guiding with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies and conducting private trail rides throughout the southern Rockies from Waterton Lakes National Park to Banff National Park. Bagley wrote poems on western and trail riding themes, self-publishing a volume titled "Those Other Days" in 1969.
