History / Biographical
George Browne (1918-1958) was the youngest child of artist Belmore Browne (1881-1954) and writer Agnes Evelyn (Sibley) Browne (1882-1976). George's parents purchased a summer home in Banff in 1921, and throughout his childhood George travelled across Canada and the United States, spending much of this time camping and hiking in the Canadian Rockies where his father drew inspiration for his wildlife and landscape art.
George first began to develop his drawing and painting skills as a child and young adult by learning from his father. George attended the California School of Fine Arts for five years from the age of 15, before being drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. George continued to paint during and after his military service, and from 1947 George dedicated most of his time to his art. George Married Isabel "Tibby" Magregor in 1948, and the couple moved to a cabin in the Canadian Rockies shortly afterwards where they had two children. In his spare time, George was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and went on numerous duck-hunting trips with his dog, an Irish Setter named Kelly O'Toole. George died during a hunting accident in 1958.

Photographs are individually captioned underneath with the painting's title and dimensions. Album also includes one photograph of George's dog, Kelly, posing with a duck.

File pertains to a photograph album depicting a summer 1926 trip organized by Caroline Hinman to the Canadian Rockies and a hunting trip from Wilson's Ranch in September, 1926.
The summer trip, made on horseback and by dogsled, began in Seebe, Alberta and ended at Lake Windermere, British Columbia, working through Banff National Park via Lake Louise, Abbot Pass, and the Lake O'Hara region. Includes scenic views of mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, camps, horses, dogs, and people - many of whom are reffered to by their initials or married names (in the case of some women).
The hunting trip was possibly organized by Tom Wilson out of his Kananaskis Ranch. The party travelled north in the direction of the Saskatchewan River. Includes pictures of camps, horses, pack trains, snowfall, mountains, rivers, and people - does not include photographs of hunted animals.
Also includes a single photograph of The Learned's House in Newbury Port, Massachusetts, enlargements from Rocky Mountain trips, and various cards from The Vincents and Florence Dibell Bartlett.
Inserts pertain to overviews/advertisements for two 1927 trips that would have been sent out by Caroline Hinman in advance detailing routes, expectations, and prices.

The hunting trip took place in the Pipestone Pass region of Banff National Park. Includes camps, lakes, scenic views, target practices, and dead animals, mostly mountain goats, deer, and a coyote.
Also includes enlargements and 1927 Christmas cards from various people.

"Where the North Wind Blows" [working title: "The Snow Tigers"], 1975, directed by Stewart Raffill and starring Henry Brandon, Herbert Nelson, Dan Haggerty, and Fernando Celis .
Set in Alaska, a burly trapper escapes into the wilderness after accidentally shooting his friend’s son. While pursuing a solitary life, he encounters a mother Siberian snow tiger and her cubs. When the tigress is killed by hunters, the trapper adopts the orphan tigers and defends them from hunters.
Location filming mostly around the Kananaskis Country and Canmore areas.
